Thales Cryogenics has been present at the Internal Thales Technodays and the Optro 2010 conference both held in Paris 3-5 February.

In two presented papers we introduced the mini linear cryocooler UP8497 and the RM3 rotary cooler with integrated electronics.

The UP 8497, currently under qualification, is our new miniaturized moving coil cryocooler with very low vibration and acoustic noise levels. The development of new lining materials and the low moving mass lead to lifetime expectancies of more than 15.000 hours.
With dimensions of 35x117 mm and a mass of only 600 grams the cooler offers an alternative for rotary coolers and is perfectly positioned for surveillance programs and vehicle mounted programs. The use of our DSP based cooler drive electronics MPCDE2450 allows for extended performance data storage and intelligent monitoring features. These functions are easily accessed and programmed using the GUI based CDE control software, available for these new cooler drive electronics.

The rotary cryocooler RM3 is the new development in our successful RM series. With DSP based onboard electronics, many operational as well as diagnostic and monitoring functions are available. Two regulating modes ensure stable functioning at the required cryogenic temperature. Easy communication with the drive electronics using the special software application, allows for ROM programming of the various parameters and fast read-out of stored functional data.
